The Institute of Korean Language and Culture (IKLC) has taught Korean language and culture since 2004. Students come from many different countries including Cameroon, Canada, China, Cambodia, Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Sudan, Sweden, USA, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.The IKLC offers Korean language classes for academic and general purpose catered for current and prospective students of the university.
The program is organized into different levels, which are periodically rearranged according to test results.

Currently a 20-week is on offer, in which students shall take 15 hours a week. The first 20-week course runs from March to August and the second semester does from September to Februaryb of the upcoming year.
The level and therefore the proper class of students are decided on the basis of the placement test. Its curriculum covers various subjects such as cultural experience of Korea, Korean listening, Korean speaking, Korean reading, Korean writing, practical Korean, Korean grammar, and TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean).

Qualifications

Prospective applicant must meet the following qualification criteria:

  • Have an adequate health, both physically and mentally.
    ※ Persons who are pregnant or having severe illness may not apply.
  • Non-native Koreans who have finished or are scheduled to finish high school

      * [Apostille Certificate]The documents such as Diploma & Transcript should be translated into Korean or English and  need to be notarized by a Notary Public. And then they need to be sent to the certification authority (your country’s embassy or any certified authority) for an Apostille Certificate. 

      * If your country has not signed the Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents, you need to send notarized documents to Korean embassy or Consulate in your country for their authentication.     • One bank statement showing you have more than $9,000USD
    • One copy of the applicant's passport
    • 3 Photos(3cmⅹ4cm) - white color background
    • One recommendation letter: from the applicant's teacher of the school, academic advisor or the relevant chief executive officer of the organization, etc.
    • One copy of a certificate of Korean proficiency (level 3 in TOPIK) within 2 years from application period(May 31 or November 30)
      Freshman and Transfer : TOPIK level 3 or above
    • A certificate of the guarantee's employment & earned income
    • A certificate of Korean proficiency within 2 years from application period(if available)
    • A certificate of the entry and exit of the applicant in Korea(if available)

Notes

  • Application form and other program materials are to be filled out either in Korean or in English. And all of the materials should be A4 sized; if smaller, attach the material to an additional A 4 sized paper; if bigger, fold it up to be an A 4 sized one.
  • The documents such as certificates or credentials issued in languages other than Korean or English must include official notarized translation, which is to be put before the original.
  • When you submit the documents to Woosuk University, they should be arranged in the order of the list of the required documents stated above.
  • Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant.
  • Incomplete or incorrect documents are subject to rejection by Woosuk University.
  • Selection Criterion : Submitted Documents Only If necessary, applicants may be interviewed.

  • Room & Board : 1,500,000 KRW (For 1 semester)
  • Insurance & Visa Issuance Fee : 150,000 KRW (paid upon Arrival)

Other important things

Entry

  • Students must arrive in Korea one week before the Korean language class begins.
  • Prior to arrival, students are advised to acquire some knowledge about the Korean climate, customs, culture, etc.

    Useful Websites

  • Students are required to get a visa before arriving in Korea.
  • After getting admitted from Woosuk University, a visa package including the certificate of admission & acceptance letter will be mailed to the applicants.
  • Please visit the Consular section of the Korean embassy or consulate in your country of residence with the visa package Woosuk will send.

Visa 

  • Students are required to get a visa before arriving in Korea
  • A successful candidate will get an email admission letter from Woosuk together with money transfer information. If an applicant  transfers tuition and fees, a visa package including a certificate of admission and tuition payment will be issued and mailed.
  • Please visit the Consular section of the Korean embassy in your country of residence with the visa package and apply for student visa.
  • If your visa is not accepted or you have no choice but to cancel your study all of a sudden, the transferred money will be paid back to you excluding application fee.

Housing

  • Language course students will be given the priority to reside in Woosuk’s residence hall.
  • The housing fee will be responsible for each student.
