Lifelong Education Center Director: Professor Lee Jeong-han
The Lifelong Education Center of Woosuk University was established in December 1994, having received approval from the Ministry of Education, with the aim of providing educational opportunities to local residents based on the university's spirit of social service and lifelong education. It aims to enhance the quality of citizens through the expansion of lifelong education and information provision, and has produced approximately 6,000 graduates since its opening in the first semester of 1995. In a 1999 survey, it was selected as the best university-affiliated lifelong education center in the province, and it is realizing another Woosuk University in the community through various educational programs covering over 50 courses. It serves as an important bridge connecting Woosuk University and the local community, significantly contributing to the enhancement of the university's image.
Additionally, in the 1999 comprehensive university evaluation, it received the highest rating in the social service sector related to lifelong education. A notable feature of the Lifelong Education Center is its specialized education based on the characteristics of its campuses, Daega Campus and Geumam Campus. At Daega Campus, located above Daga Park in Wansan-gu, Jeonju, specialized education is conducted in foreign language courses (English conversation) and art education courses (traditional painting, oil painting, watercolor, nude sketching, pottery, etc.). It has been evaluated as offering a higher level of educational programs compared to other universities' lifelong education centers. Particularly in the art courses, many award winners have emerged from various competitions, and the English conversation program is well-known for its high quality.
Moreover, the creative writing course in the liberal arts program has gained consistent popularity for broadening the writing opportunities for the general public, achieving excellent results in various competitions. Since 1999, at Geumam Campus located in the Jeonbuk Ilbo building in Geumam-dong, Jeonju, specialized education courses in health sports (dance sports, charming disco, jazz dance, hula dance, etc.) and professional training courses for instructors (sports massage instructors, foot health management instructors, early childhood recreation instructors, children's art instructors, storytelling instructors, etc.) as well as liberal arts courses (feng shui, history classroom, photography class, etc.) have been conducted. In particular, special education courses such as retail distribution expert courses, exemption courses for self-study degree acquisition exams, entrepreneurship courses supported by the Small and Medium Business Administration, real estate agent qualification courses, and police exam preparation courses have been established, enhancing its recognition as a specialized educational institution.
Furthermore, in 2001, it was designated by the Ministry of Labor as an institution for enhancing the work motivation of recipients of basic livelihood security and for providing basic information technology education. It was also selected by the Ministry of Information and Communication as an institution for improving the information technology capabilities of the public through the e-Korean intermediate computer course. Since 2002, the Lifelong Education Center of Woosuk University has been conducting specialized information and communication education for highly educated unemployed individuals with the support of the Ministry of Information and Communication. Due to its excellent faculty composed of field professionals, high-quality curriculum, and high employment rates, it has shown a high competition rate of over 4:1 for student recruitment. Graduates of this program, aimed at cultivating specialized personnel in the information and communication field, are active in major corporations, mid-sized companies, and venture startups.
In the future, the Lifelong Education Center of Woosuk University plans to develop into a substantial educational institution dedicated to lifelong education for the local community, focusing on non-degree educational programs offered by Woosuk University. Most courses are available for current students, and educational programs are conducted year-round. Detailed programs can be checked on the website (www.woosukedu.com). It plans to introduce a cyber education system for further advancement and aims to internationalize through program partnerships with lifelong education centers in foreign universities.
Training Institute The Training Institute was established as the Woosuk University-affiliated Secondary Education Training Institute on July 3, 1998, with approval from the Ministry of Education. Until now, teacher training institutes have been primarily established and operated at national universities. Secondary education training institutes have been set up at national university colleges of education, and elementary education training institutes at education colleges to conduct qualification training and general training for current teachers. Initially, it applied for approval as an institution for minor qualification training, but considering the functions of the training institute, it was authorized to conduct qualification training, general training, and job training. Therefore, it is currently authorized as the Woosuk University-affiliated Secondary Teacher Training Institute, capable of offering qualification training for first and second-grade teachers, vice principals, principals, and minors, as well as general training in various subject areas such as Korean, English, and Mathematics, and general training in educational administration, counseling, and youth guidance. Qualification training is established at the request of the provincial and city education offices, while general training is organized independently, accepting applications from teachers and opening courses when a sufficient number of participants is reached. Job training can be established at the request of schools.
Developmental Disabilities Treatment Education Center The Developmental Disabilities Treatment Education Center started in May 1995 on the first floor of the west stand of the Samnye Campus playground, under the name of the Early Education Center for Disabled Children, affiliated with the Special Education Research Institute. In April 1998, it moved to the site of a traditional medicine hospital in Jungwasan-dong and began a new chapter as the Woosuk University-affiliated Developmental Disabilities Treatment Education Center. On June 18, a ceremony was held to celebrate its opening, attended by the president and heads of various departments, as well as representatives from social welfare institutions in Jeonbuk. Our center serves as a small institution that practices the spirit of community service of Woosuk University by playing a role in early treatment education for disabled children in Jeonbuk and rehabilitation education for adults. The target audience includes children with intellectual disabilities, emotional disorders, autism, hearing impairments, visual impairments, physical disabilities (including cerebral palsy), language development delays, and speech disorders (such as pronunciation issues, stuttering, aphasia, cleft palate, etc.), applying individualized early programs from ages 0 to school age.
Engineering Education Innovation Center Center Director: Professor Lee Hong-ki
The Engineering Education Innovation Center was established in August 2008 with the aim of enhancing the quality of engineering education through demand-oriented education and continuous improvement based on the evaluation of educational outcomes. The center's main tasks include innovating engineering education and obtaining engineering education accreditation awarded by the Korean Accreditation Board for Engineering Education. To this end, the Engineering Education Accreditation Promotion Committee was formed in September 2007 (with participation from the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering), and it has been developing curricula for major programs that meet the engineering education accreditation standards, implementing the engineering education accreditation system since the 2008 intake.
